Make Keychain Lizards Made From Beads

Use multicolored beads to make a cute lizard key chain.

A lizard key chain can make a great gift, or just a fun and handy accessory for your key ring. Beaded key chains are easy and inexpensive to make, requiring only a few supplies from the craft store. All you need is a solid surface to tie and thread your beads, and you can make one of these key chains anywhere.

Instructions

1. Cut a piece of 1/8-inch ribbon so that it is 2 yards long. Fold the ribbon in half equally so that the two ends are even. Place the folded end of the ribbon up and through your key ring, then feed the two ends of the ribbon through the loop.

2. Measure about half an inch down and tie another knot in the ribbon so that there is a ½-inch space of ribbon between the two knots.

3. Wrap a small piece of tape around each end of the ribbon. This will make them easier to slide through the holes in the beads. Insert one ribbon end into a bead, then insert the other ribbon end the opposite way through the same side of the bead. Pull the two ends and push the bead all the way to the top so that it is sitting beneath the key ring.

4. Thread two more beads in the same manner as the first, sliding one end of the ribbon through two consecutive beads, then threading the other end of the ribbon in the opposite direction of the two beads. Pull these beads to the top, next to the first.

5. Slide the ribbon end through one black bead, one regular color bead, and another black bead, and then slide the other end in the opposite direction through the beads. The two black beads will form your lizard's eyes.

6. Repeat the process with two more rows of two beads each, sliding each bead beneath the key chain. This is your lizard's neck.

7. Slide two additional beads onto one ribbon on each side. These are your lizard's legs. Slide three more beads of a different color, such as green, behind the two leg beads. Make a loop, then thread the end of the ribbon back through the two leg beads. Repeat the process with the other side. Again, you should have two ribbons hanging downward.

8. Thread three beads onto one end of the ribbon, and slide the other ribbon back through the three beads. In the next row, do the same with four beads, and then with five beads. Then repeat in the opposite direction, adding four beads, then three beads, then two beads.

9. Create two more legs using the technique outlined in Step 7. To make the tail, add six single beads in a row, and then tie the ribbon in a knot. Cut the additional ribbon off the bottom.
