Many truck driving schools in upstate New York offer courses to prepare drivers to pass the CDL exam. Comprehensive trucking curriculum should include vehicle operation and maintenance, safety code and techniques, transportation law and practical skills in record keeping, trip planning and map reading. SAGE Technical Services, located just outside of Binghamton in Vestal, offers both tractor-trailer and light delivery truck training programs. SAGE's tractor-trailer programs are specified by truck type, or students can opt for the basic four- to five-week CDL program. The basic program covers an extensive list of driving skills, including vehicle operation, safety, regulations and compliance, trip-planning and hours of service, and meets U.S. Department of Transportation standards. No previous experience or knowledge of truck driving is necessary for students to enroll in this program.
