Make Colors From Fundamental Colors

Experiment with color.

It is incredible to think that nearly every color we paint with can be made from the three primary colors. Even black, a color we normally think of as preexisting in its inky form, can be mixed from specific versions of the primary three, and can be tailored to the artist's specific tastes.

Instructions

Making Purple

1. Mix whatever shade you most desire.

Take equal parts red and blue paint and mix.

2. For a bluish purple, add more blue than red to your mixture.

3. For a more reddish purple, add more red to your mixture.

4. Always clean your brush.

Rinse brush. Blot it dry.

Making Green

5. Create new verdant hues.

Take equal parts yellow and blue paint and mix.

6. If you desire a lighter, more yellow-green, add more yellow than blue to your mixture.

7. Play with the palette of the ocean.

If you desire a darker, blue-green color, add more blue than green to your mixture.

8. If you would like to make your green have a slightly brown or mauve tint, add a tiny dab of red to your mixture.

9. Rinse brush. Blot it dry.
