California Vocal Community Schools

Many community colleges host performing ensembles for their students to participate in.


Community colleges around the nation offer associate's degree programs for students who are interested in a two-year course of study. The music courses offered at many of these colleges are designed to educate students in the essentials of successful performance, composition and other music-related practices. Multiple community colleges in California offer associate's degrees in vocal studies for aspiring singers.


Long Beach City College


Long Beach City College offers associate's degrees in composition, instrumental performance, music technology, vocal performance, record production, audio engineering and songwriting. Students in each program enroll in classes specific to their discipline. Credits earned during the completion of the associate's degree are transferable to the majority of four-year music institutions. Long Beach City College hosts a symphony orchestra, wind ensemble, show band, madrigal choir, southland chorale and percussion ensemble. Students interested in the program can complete an application for admission online.


San Joaquin Delta College


San Joaquin Delta College offers an associate's degree in vocal studies, jazz studies, wind studies and music theory. The classes constituting the associate's degree are transferable to the majority of four-year academic institutions. In addition to private music lessons, students at San Joaquin Delta College have the opportunity to perform in San Joaquin's symphonic band, jazz ensemble and delta singers ensemble. Each student is required to take classes in music history and theory to complete the associate's degree. Prospective applicants must complete an online or physical application in order to enroll at San Joaquin Delta College.


Glendale Community College


Located in Glendale, California, Glendale Community College offers an associate's degree in music performance. Vocalists enrolled in the program have the opportunity to participate in the college choir, vocal jazz ensemble and concert singers ensemble. Each vocal ensemble undertakes several concert performances throughout the academic school year. Glendale Community College has a 400-seat auditorium that is used by the performing arts ensembles on campus. Prospective applicants must complete an online application to be successfully admitted to the program.


Citrus College


Located in Glendora, California, Citrus College offers associate's degrees in music for aspiring musicians and performers. Vocalists enrolled at Citrus College have the opportunity to perform in the school's concert choir and "Citrus Singers" ensemble. Each student in the program has the opportunity to study privately with faculty members at the school. Students at Citrus College also have access to on-campus recording studios. Prospective students must complete an online application for admission into the program.
