A realistically drawn eye can bring a drawing of a person to life.
Eyes can express emotion, personality and even what a person is thinking. To capture this level of expression in a drawing, you need to make your eye look as realistic as possible. Proper shaping, shading and proportions can add realism to an illustrated eye. When done correctly, a realistic drawing of an eye can appear to follow you wherever you go.
Instructions
1. Draw a straight horizontal line. Around the line, draw an oval eye shape. To the lower left of the oval, add a small "C" shaped loop to represent the pink part of the eye.
2. Draw a circle for an iris inside the center of the eye, but leave space between the bottom of the iris and the outer eye. Draw a curved line that runs parallel to the bottom of the eye in the space under the iris.
3. Draw a smaller circle inside the iris for a pupil. The bottom of the pupil should stop at the horizontal line. Shade in the pupil, but leave a small section white to represent light reflecting in the eye.
4. Outline the shape of the iris, and draw small lines going from the pupil to the iris. The lines should follow around the curve of the iris. Go over the lines a second time to make some of the lines darker than others.
5. Draw eyelashes around the outer rim of the eye. The top row of lashes should curve up and the bottom row should curve down. For more realism, blend in straight lashes, as well, and make the lashes fuller on the right side of the eye.
6. Draw a curve that follows the top of the outer eye shape. This will make the inner fold of the eyelid appear to cover top of the iris. Keep outlining the fold of the eyelid until the top of the iris looks flat.
