Fresh paint Walls Brown

Prep the walls before applying brown paint.

Painting the color brown on the walls of an entire room or just an accent wall can make a bold statement in the space. When adding dark colors to a room, you should always primer the walls before painting. To achieve the level of color desired, you most likely will need to apply two coats of color. Once you have prepped your room, you can begin the primer and painting process.

Instructions

1. Fill a bucket with water and 1/2 tsp. of liquid dish soap. Wet a large sponge with the liquid and wipe the entire wall with the sponge. Rewet the sponge as it dries out. Rinse the wall by wiping it with the sponge and clean water. Dry the wall with a lint-free cloth.

2. Apply painter's tape to the baseboard next to the wall and next to the ceiling or on any crown molding. Unscrew the face plates on electrical outlets with a flat-head or Philips screwdriver and remove them. Place tape over the top of the electrical outlets.

3. Stir the paint primer, using a wooden paint stick. Pour the paint into a paint roller pan. Wet a 6-inch paint roller with the primer. Roll the primer onto the wall, using a "W" pattern. Continue applying the primer using the "W" pattern, overlapping and covering the entire wall.

4. Wet a 3- to 4-inch paintbrush with the primer. Apply the primer over areas not covered with the roller, such as next to the baseboards, the ceiling or crown molding and any electrical outlets. Allow the primer to dry for two hours. Wash the primer from the roller and paintbrush with warm water.

5. Pour the brown paint into a clean paint pan. Wet the paint roller with the paint and apply it in the same manner as the primer. Brush the edges that you cannot reach with the roller. Allow the paint to dry for one to two hours. Repeat the painting process to achieve full coverage. Allow the paint to dry again for one to two hours.

6. Remove the painter's tape by slowly peeling it from the surface. Touch up any areas with the paintbrush that may have come off with the tape.
