Create A Home Studio

Home recording studios are on the rise. It's possible for amateur and career musicians to outfit a home studio so it can compete with expensive pro studios. Musicians of all stripes want a place they can lay down tracks any day of the week, rather than having to reserve studio time. There's a lot to choose: here's a primer.

Instructions

1. Set a budget. Some high-tech home studios may look no different than standard pro studio: with expensive wood paneling, separate rooms for recording drums or vocals, and more. Other people want to set up a rudimentary home studio in the corner of the living room. Both are possible.

2. Get a recording interface. Two choices: hardware or software. You can get a 16 track reel to reel, hard drive recorder, 24 track recorder, and others. For a software recorder, you're going to need a separate interface.

3. Determine the number of inputs needed. Whether you're recording on the computer or a hardware interface, make sure to have an interface with enough inputs. For instance, if you're going to be recording live with a four piece band, you're going to need separate inputs for each instrument and mics.

4. Get quality microphones. The best room and 24-track recorder won't sound very good with terrible microphones. Mics might be the most important consideration. There are a lot of good condenser mics on the market that aren't too expensive. If you're recording drums, you'll want a separate bass drum mic. Large diaphragm mics are recommended for recording vocals.

5. Get good headphones and monitors. This one's sometimes overlooked-better-quality headphones will give you a more realistic representation of your recording sounds. A high-quality pair of monitor speakers will also play songs exactly as they were recorded, without any additional EQing.

6. The accessories: mic stands and durable, high-quality cables with no distortion, any additional guitar/drum/synthesizer effects you might require.

Convert Photos To Pencil Sketches

Converting a photo into a pencil drawingt is easy.

Whether it is a cherished family portrait or a photo you took that turned out to be stunning, you may want to display it as pencil drawing. There are many free tools on the Internet that let you convert a photo into a pencil drawing. But if you want the satisfaction of doing it yourself, Photoshop lets you work on your photos with relative ease.

Instructions

1. Open Photoshop. Open the picture you want to convert.

2. Click "Layers," "New," then "Layer via Copy." This will create a new layer for you to work with so that the original picture is safe.

3. Click on "Image," choose "Adjustments," then select "Desaturate." This will make your image black and white.

4. Click on "Layers," "New," "Layer via Copy." Make sure this new layer is at the top of your layers in the "Layers" window. Click on it to highlight and select it.

5. Click "Image," "Adjustments," "Invert." This will make your image look like a negative.

6. Click on the drop-down box at the top of the "Layers" window and choose "Color Dodge." The image will turn white, or almost white.

7. Go to "Filters," "Blur," "Gaussian blur." This will make the sketch effect appear. Adjust up. The higher you go on the scale, the stronger the sketch effect will look. A good medium point is around 12.

Clean Grease On The Wall

Grease stains can be tough to remove, but unfortunately they are a fairly common occurrence on kitchen walls. Even on the special types of paint used in kitchens and bathrooms, grease stains need to be removed as quickly as possible, as they can become built up and increasingly hard to get off as time goes by. Even if the wall is repainted, grease stains can bleed through paint. The best thing to do is try a few methods until the stain is completely removed.

Instructions

1. Mix a solution of half Simple Green All-purpose Cleaner and half water. Simple Green is a concentrate, so it needs to be diluted. Depending on the size of the area to be cleaned, you can use as little as 1/2 cup of Simple Green with 1/2 cup of water, or as much as a 1/2 gallon of each. Dampen a sponge with hot water, and use it to apply the mixture to the wall. Rub gently at first and then more firmly.

2. Test a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser (or similar generic product) on an inconspicuous area of your wall. If the paint does not show any damage, use the eraser to rub the grease-stained area.

3. Mix together one part chlorine bleach with three parts water and two tsp. of trisodium phospate (TSP). TSP is a degreaser that comes in a powdered form and can be found at hardware stores. Again, test the mixture on an inconspicuous patch of wall first, then rub it on the spot and rinse with warm water. This suggestion for cleaning walls can be found in Consumer Reports' "Clean Practically Anything."

4. Apply Dawn dishwashing liquid to a washcloth soaked in hot water and rub it on the wall. Rinse with warm water.

5. Purchase a commercial-strength degreaser if none of the other solutions work. Follow the package instructions carefully and test it on an inconspicuous section of wall first.

Learn Enemy Abilities In Breath Of Fireside 3

Dragon mythology plays a large role in the game's story.

"Breath of Fire 3" for Sony's Playstation console is a traditional role-playing game featuring adventurers, dragons and searchable environments filled with hidden items. In the game, players control Ryu, the last member of a mysterious race, as he attempts to understand both his own past and the mysterious dragon that haunts his present. New to the "Breath of Fire" series, this game allows players to learn enemy skills in battle, which can then be learned and utilized during gameplay.

Instructions

1. Load the "Breath of Fire 3" game disc on your Playstation.

2. Load your current "Breath of Fire 3" campaign, or click "New Game" to start a new campaign.

3. Engage in battle by running into an on-screen enemy. The battle sequence will be launched.

4. Choose one of your characters and select the "Examine" option from the menu. Rather than actively participating in battle, the character will now closely watch your enemy in an attempt to learn one of his enemy skills.

5. Wait for your enemy to attack you. In order to make sure he uses a move, delay battle by ceasing attacks against the enemy.

6. Watch as your enemy launches a unique enemy skill attack. If your character is using the "Examine" function, there's a good chance that he'll learn the enemy skill; you'll see an "Enemy Skill Learned!" message if the "Examine" was successful. However, with more complicated skills, it often takes many attempts to learn the enemy skill, so be patient.

7. Complete the battle. On the "Spoils" screen, you'll get a message saying that your character learned an enemy skill.

Ceramic Kiln Work

Drying the Ceramic

A Ceramic kiln helps remove all of the water from ceramic wares prior to firing or during the firing process. Ceramic contains crystal bound water that cannot simply evaporate and a kiln is used at low temperatures to dry out the ceramic. This process is know as a "bisque" or a "single" firing and the resulting ceramic is chemically different and ready for complete firing at higher temperatures.

Firing the Ceramic

When the kiln is used for a full firing of ceramic, the high temperatures of the kiln change the actual particles of the ceramic from clay into finished ceramic. First, a process called burnout begins in which the ceramic is heated to the point at which all impurities are burned away. Second, a process called sintering happens, which means that the particles of ceramic bond to each other and the ware becomes waterproof and structurally stronger. Finally, and at higher temperatures, decomposition occurs , where the basic oxide particles of the ceramic are broken down.

Glazing the Ceramic

The final stages of making ceramic using a kiln involve glazing the ware in order to seal it and give it a finished look. This involves a process called vitrification in which the ceramic ware is heated to such high temperatures that the oxidation of the exposed ceramic increases so high that the quartz crystal structures with the ceramic actually melt and flow together giving the finished glazed ceramic product its shiny polished look.

Careers Together Promotion

It takes an entire team of promoters, staff and security to host a successful concert.

Concerts don't just happen. From bartenders to bouncers, stage managers to sound and lighting engineers, it takes a team of people to make the concert a success. But the lifeblood behind concerts are the people who promote the events. Several careers in music pertain to concert promotion.

Booking Agents

At least two booking agents are on either side of promoting a concert--one that works for a music venue and books bands to play, and one that works for every band that comes through and negotiates the terms of the concert.

Before a concert takes place, the two agents will iron out the details of the concert--money, sound engineer, publicity budget, accommodations for bands and more. Because it is in the interests of both booking agents to book a well-attended concert, both often serve as promoters and publicists when hosting or booking a band.

The average U.S. salary for a band booking agent, which is an agent that either works independently or for a company and books one or several bands' tours, depends on the size of the market. The smaller the market, the smaller the agent's salary is.

Publicists

A music publicist works for a band or musical act and promotes the band in every way possible, including tours and concert dates. They contact local media, including radio, newspapers, magazines and local websites, to garner buzz for each concert.

A publicist is different from a promoter. A publicist will execute an efficient and focused marketing campaign based around the band, whether it's following an album release or another "angle." Publicists generally market just a few acts, usually from one to three bands.

A publicist's salary depends on whether he or she works directly for a band or for a company that works with a band. Publicists who work directly with bands often don't make as much money as corporate publicists and see their work with an independent band as an investment or a hobby.

Promoters

Promoters work for the music venue or an independent promotion company hired by the venue to promote the concert through the same media utilized by publicists. Often, venue promoters and band publicists combine their efforts to maximize attendance results.

Promoters hire artists to create concert fliers, send press releases to local media, purchase ads in newspapers, confirm details as the event approaches and hammer out the logistics as the event gets closer.

Venue and event promoters can make on average up to six figures, according to Simply Hired, but salaries usually depend on the size of the markets.

Backspin

Backspin

Do you want to impress when you're on the dance floor? Learn to do the backspin. Of course, this is something that won't work well if you suddenly whip it out at a wedding reception--unless the proper music's being played, of course. When it is, go wild. But always remember this: with great power comes great responsibility. Read on to learn use that backspin wisely and well.

Instructions

1. Dress for success. Wear a shirt that's smooth and without much texture. Something that's smoothly knit will work well. Remember, you're going to be spinning around on your back. It won't be too comfortable to spin around on something that feels like sandpaper against your skin, no matter how cool the back spin may look.

2. Be aware of the beat. You want to make sure every move you do on the dance floor reflects it.

3. Sit on the floor, timing your movements with the beat.

4. Spread your legs apart, bending them at the knee, and place your feet on the ground before you.

5. Place your left hand back behind you. Swing your right leg up and around and tip onto your back as you do so. This will cause you to start spinning around on your back. As you spin, gradually pull your arms and legs in, which will help you backspin longer.

6. Be sure to spin high on your back-closer to your shoulder blades than the middle of your back.

7. Work on making that backspin really wild. Get up your momentum as you spin (this will take some practice), and gradually bring you legs up higher and higher. Try to imagine an ice skater pirouetting on the ice, and work on replicating that while spinning.

Make Use Of A Color Wheel

Color Model

Color wheels aren't just for interior decorators. Knowing the relationship of colors can help you in many everyday activities. A color wheel is usually divided into twelve segments. The colors are derived from the primary colors of red, yellow and blue. These colors are mixed to form secondary colors of green, orange, and purple. The secondary colors are then put together with a primary color to form the other six colors on the color wheel. A color wheel explains how colors relate to each other and which colors will look good together.

Instructions

1. Learn color theory. By using a color wheel you'll easily be able to see which colors go together. A monochromatic color palette uses different hues of the same color. This provides a soothing effect without a lot of contrast. An analogous color scheme is formed by using colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. Complementary colors are across from each other on the color wheel. Complementary colors make each other pop and provide unique color schemes. You might not usually think to pair these colors together, such as purple and green.

2. Redefine the color wheel. You might be overwhelmed when looking at a color wheel. Print out a color wheel. Then find common household objects in the same colors and place them on top of the color wheel. This can be anything from spices to jewelry. The color wheel will become easier to relate to you because you'll recognize the objects. You pair colors together everyday without realizing it. A custom color wheel can help you relate colors together in a whole new light.

3. Explore the hues of each color. There are twelve different parts to the color wheel. These colors might seem too bright or bold for decorating, but each color has many different shades. A deep eggplant purple might make an interesting color scheme when paired with celery green.

4. Apply the color wheel to your everyday life. You can use the color wheel in web design, decorating or just getting dressed in the morning. If you don't know what matches or looks good together, look to the color wheel. This will prevent you from being afraid to use color in everyday life.

5. Invoke feeling with the color wheel. The color wheel is divided into warm colors such as red, orange and yellow. The cool side contains purple, blue and green. Cool colors are relaxing, while warm colors will energize you.

Easy Face Sketches Stepbystep

Drawing faces is a skill that will impress others.

If you have artistic talent and enjoy drawing, you will no doubt want to draw people's faces. This type of art is also known as portraiture and is a wonderful way to show off your skills. You can even draw the portrait of a loved one as a cherished gift. If you have some artistic talent, you can learn to draw faces.

Instructions

1. Use a pencil to draw an oval egg shape on a piece of sketch paper. Make the bottom narrower for the chin. Do not bring the bottom to a point; keep it curved or even slightly squarish, as some people have square jaws.

2. Draw a straight line running vertically across the oval. This will be a guide to separate the two sides of the face. Draw a horizontal line halfway down the face to indicate the placement of the eyes. Draw a smaller horizontal line about 2 inches above the chin for the mouth, and then an even small one about 1 inch above that as a guide for the nose.

3. Sketch eyebrows just above the guideline you created for the eyes. Give them the detail of hair by using your pencil to create small, separate strokes. Create an arc shape as you finish.

4. Draw the eyes in almond shapes on either side of the long vertical line running through the face. Make sure to create each eye through the middle of the horizontal guideline that represents the eyes. Fill in the lids above the almond shapes in an arc shape. Draw the irises of the eyes by creating a half-circle in each of the almond shapes.

5. Draw the nose by starting with two dots for the nostrils on the base of the short horizontal line beneath the eyes. Connect them by filling in the septum, which is between the nostrils. This area should be round. Draw the sides of the nose by making half-circle shapes outside either nostril. Add the side of the nose by creating a line for it running from the eyebrow down to the middle of the nose. Do the same on the other side, but use lighter pressure for varying shading.

6. Sketch the mouth, using the horizontal line below the nose as the guide. Make sure the middle is right on the line. Draw a curve going down for the lower lip. The upper lip should be the same, except for the middle, which should have a rounded "M" shape.

7. Erase the guidelines you created before you filled in the features. Use your eraser carefully so that you don't erase any of the details you just drew.

8. Add in detailing. Use the side of your pencil's tip to add shading, including cheekbones on either side of the face. Draw hair in any style you want.

Use Ash Blonde Color To Boost Grey Hair

Gray hair, if cared for properly, can be stunning. If you would like to retain your natural look but make your gray hair appear younger-looking, you can enhance your hair using an ash blonde hair color dye kit. Ash blonde is a color between blonde and gray, so rather than completely changing your hair color, ash blonde coloring will merely enhance your gray hair, giving it a fresher, more vibrant look.

Instructions

1. Put on the plastic gloves included with the hair color kit and mix the ingredients as specified by the instructions that came with them.

2. Apply the hair color to your hair. Divide your hair into sections and squirt the dye evenly down each section, working from sections at the front of your scalp toward the back.

3. Pile your hair atop your head and cover it with the plastic cap included in the hair color kit.

4. Dampen a washcloth and use it to remove any excess hair color on the skin around your hairline. Be aware that the washcloth will be stained by the dye.

5. Set a timer for the amount of time specified on the hair dye kit. Once the time has passed, rinse the dye from your hair in the shower.

6. Put on the conditioner that came with your hair color kit and let it soak in for at least three minutes before rinsing it.

Use Arm Styling For That Guy Inside A Fundamental Bronze American Cha Cha

Arm styling is crucial to spice up your dancing once you have gotten the footwork under control. Although it is not as emphasized for men as it is for ladies, arm styling can still be a significant enhancement to the male look if done right. Even something other than hanging your arms next to your side will always look good, so read on for instructions on perform some basic arm styling in a Bronze American Cha Cha.

Instructions

1. The routine is: Basic, cross-body lead, crossover break, spot turn, chase, 3 cha's cha's back, 3 cha cha's forward.

2. For the beginning basic, you will be in closed position, so do not worry about arm styling just yet. Continue passed the cross body lead and stop right before the cross over breaks.

3. For the cross over breaks, you want to take your right arm--it should be already in a holding position--and let it go outwards to your right as you open up and step forward. Further continue the movement of your right arm and perform a quick, counter-clockwise loop before you send it back behind you in a straight line. As you rotate to step forward in this crossover, your body will naturally place your arm behind you.

4. Recover from the crossover and when you chasse to your left, just touch palms with your partner in preparation for the spot turn. During the spot turn, slide off of each others' palms as you turn and return to face each other with no arm connections.

5. Keeping your arms out by your side, perform the chase pattern. You may choose to style what you like here since you are not connected at all, but one easy option would be just to use your arms like you are running (in opposition) for this section.

6. The following steps are just 3 cha cha's in closed position, so there is no arm styling to be done in this portion. After these, loop the pattern and try again.

Make Use Of An Xacto Knife

The X-Acto knife is an extremely effective tool that is used to slice perfect shapes into paper, foam cardboard and many other malleable surfaces. People who are unfamiliar with this tool may not wield it properly, resulting in jagged lines, sloppy cuts and potential injuries. By taking the time to learn hold and cut with an X-Acto knife, craftsmen are able to make precise and accurate cuts.

Instructions

1. Place a large cutting mat over the surface you plan on using the X-Acto blade on. The cutting mat protects your flat surfaces from the sharp blade and helps the X-Acto blade make clean cuts.

2. Hold the X-Acto knife in your hand like a pencil with the blade facing down toward the material. Angle the blade to slide along a ruler in a straight line.

3. Set the ruler flat on the surface and trace along the ruler's edge with the X-Acto knife. Put just enough pressure on the knife to cut the paper. If the blade becomes dull, you may have to press harder for effective results.

4. Cut slowly and take your time. Rushing through a cut may ruin a line or result in an injury if you are careless with the razor-sharp X-Acto knife.

5. Change the angle of the X-Acto knife and perform a few practice cuts on some scrap material to see what angle and pressure work best for you.

Impersonal Gifts For Ladies

There are times you need to give a woman a gift that you'd rather isn't too personal. Clothing, jewelry, and toiletries are all personal items to avoid when seeking an impersonal gift. An impersonal gift doesn't mean it is something the woman won't enjoy. Ideally, it will be something she will be delighted to receive.

Books

Books can be given as an impersonal gift, yet selecting a title the recipient will enjoy can be a little tricky. Unless she's mentioned a book she is interested in reading, consider a collection of short stories. With a collection of short stories, there is a greater chance she will like at least some of the book, even if there are a few of the stories she doesn't enjoy. She may not have time in her current schedule to read a longer book. With a collection of short stories, she can pick up the book when she has some free time. A collection of uplifting short stories, such as a book from the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series is one option.

Digital Keychain

A digital keychain picture frame is a fun gift for some women, who like to show off photos of their family. Similar to the digital frame, the digital keychain loads images and displays one or several pictures at a time. Choose this gift for a tech-savvy woman, for whom it will be easy to upload the images.

Manicure Set

Affordable and attractive manicure sets are available through many cosmetic companies. They typically come in a case that can be slipped into a woman's purse. Most women would welcome a handy nail file or nail clipper in an attractive case. Some inexpensive manicure sets are poorly made and often fall apart on the first use. Purchase one from a reputable cosmetic company rather than at a dollar store.

Pen Set

Even in the computer age, people enjoy writing with a quality ink pen. Ink pen sets can be engraved with the gift recipient's initials or name., and purchased at a department store or office supply store. An ink pen set is an appropriate gift for a coworker or student.

Gormet Food

If you want to send a gift to the woman that her entire family will enjoy, consider ordering a gift package of gourmet meat. There are many specialty meat supplies, such as Omaha Steaks or Kansas City Steaks that offer gift packages of beef. If the woman is a vegetarian, you can instead order from a company that delivers gourmet fruits or desserts from a company like Harry and David or The Orchard.

How Lengthy Must I Cut Grass On New Sod

Manage healthy sod with proper watering and mowing.

If you don't care for grass sod properly after planting it, the sod will die back and turn brown. Before you cut the new sod, you must establish a healthy lawn.

Grass Length

Allow new sod to grow for at least three weeks. Grass blades must be at least 4 inches tall before you can use a lawn mower to cut the grass. The taller the grass blade, the deeper the roots, which are essential for sod or any other grass.

Mowing

Never cut more than 1/3 inch of grass off the top. If the grass blades are 4 inches tall, cut the grass blades to 3 2/3 inches tall. Mowing any more than 1/3 inch can weaken grass.

Considerations

Although you should only cut the grass 1/3 inch at a time, you can achieve a height of 2 inches -- the lowest you should ever cut grass sod -- by mowing more frequently. Every three or four days, cut 1/3 inch off the top. Eventually, you will catch up to the new growth and achieve a height of 2 inches.

Decorate With Fresh paint On Porcelain Tile

Use a small paint brush for fine details.

Ordinary ceramic tile can be transformed by adding artwork with paint. You may wish to add a mural to your kitchen backsplash or a decorative border to tiles on your bathroom wall. With a bit of prep work and artistic skill, decorating ceramic tile with paint is a fairly simple task to accomplish.

Instructions

1. Clean the ceramic tile with a mildly-abrasive bathroom cleaner to remove any residue like dirt, oil or grease.

2. Plan out your tile designs. It may be helpful to sketch out your plan on paper. For those who are not artistically inclined, using stencils provides a way to create shapes and patterns.

3. Paint the designs onto the tiles using high-gloss acrylic paint. Use fine-tipped brushes for small tiles and intricate details. If you're using a stencil, attach it to the tile beforehand using small pieces of painter's tape in each corner.

4. Wait two to three days for the paint to adequately dry. Avoid touching the paint in any way during this time.

5. Paint a coat of water-based urethane over the entire surface of the tile. Urethane finishes seal in the paint so the design holds up to wear and tear. Once the coat is dry, add a second one.

Make Use Of An E-book Creator

Self-publishing has become a popular way to publish books online, in hardcover, paperback and ebook. Companies like Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing, Barnes & Noble's Pubit and Lulu have ebook creator programs. Upload, publish and sell your ebooks after using their programs. While all ebook creators have a slightly different process, overall they are the same.

Instructions

1. Select, and register with an ebook publishing company online. Provide your contact information, and royalty payment selection. Verify your account after you receive an email from the company.

2. Select ebook as the type of book to publish. Read the publishing guidelines. Most ebook creators prefer Word files, PDFs or ePub files over other file types.

3. Upload your ebook file. Wait for the publisher to modify the file to its specifications. Review the file. Files are usually created to review as a PDF. If the file is acceptable, click OK to proceed. If it is not, revise and upload again.

4. Create a cover for the ebook. Templates are provided which can be customized. Most creators allow you to upload your own cover art if you have it. If you are unsure about creating a cover, for a fee the company can create one for you.

5. Add an International Standard Book Number to the book. ISBNs identify and register the book by a 10 or 13 digit number. Ebook creators usually offer a free ISBN to their publishing customers. ISBNs can also be purchased through Bowker.com.

6. Set the price for your ebook, and complete the creating process. The ebook will now be available for sale.

Render Effects In Acrylic Painting

Use a splattering effect to create a field of flowers.

Rendering special effects with acrylic paint gives art work a rich texture. Artists use special brush techniques such as dry brushing and splattering along with techniques such as scraping and combing. Dry brushing creates a broken texture often applied to render rough surfaces such as bricks and stones. Splattering adds a texture effect that helps to contrast color. The scraping effect creates sharp-edge objects such as buildings, and the combing effect makes nice abstract-style artwork.

Instructions

Dry Brush

1. Create a brick or stone effect by painting a thick base coat, allowing the brush strokes to show.

2. Load the brush with another shade of paint and blot off with a paper towel or rag. Drag the paint across the canvas in brick shape.

3. Repeat with more layers of colors to create a textured effect.

Splattering

4. Mask off the canvas with newspaper so only the work area shows.

5. Create a coarse splatter by loading the paintbrush with paint and using the index finger to rub across the top of the brush.

6. Create fine splatters by using a toothbrush or diffuser.

Scraping

7. Scrap paint on the surface of the canvas using a plastic card or spatula. This creates a thin layer across the surface. Let dry.

8. Apply a second coat of paint using a different color, allowing some of the first color to show through. Let dry.

9. Continue applying coats of paint as needed to build up color and texture.

Combing

10. Apply a layer of paint. Let dry

11. Apply a second layer of paint using a different color. Keep the layers of paint thin. If you apply them too thickly, the paint will form ridges.

12. Drag a comb through the paint to create fine lines, and allow the first coat of paint to show through. Experiment with combing in different directions.

13. Repeat the process as needed to create an abstract piece of art.

Do Tesselations

Tessellations

Tessellations are kind of like puzzles. A tessellation is one shape repeated and connected over and over again, with no overlapping or gaps. Each shape fits perfectly into the next shape. Tessellations are always polygons or closed shapes, but that doesn't mean you can make tessellations with all polygons. The most common polygons used for tessellations are squares, triangles and hexagons. Follow these steps to make your own tessellation.

Instructions

Paper Cut Method

1. Start with one of the basic polygons on a piece of paper: a square, triangle or hexagon.

2. Draw any kind of line through the shape: diagonal, zigzag or curvy.

3. Draw another line through the shape.

4. Cut along the lines to cut out four different shapes.

5. Place the outside corners of your original shape together and tape. Now, you have a new shape.

6. Place that shape on a piece of paper and trace the shape.

7. Move the shape to the right when you are done tracing, so it interlocks with the first traced shape. Repeat as many times as you want.

Use Acrylic Fresh paint On Plastic Stamps

You can use rubber stamps on canvas with acrylic paint.

Rubber stamps are typically used to stamp ink onto paper, but they can be used in other ways as well. For example, you can use rubber stamps while painting a picture to add interesting realistic details. With the following technique, rubber stamps can be used to apply acrylic paint to a canvas just the way you would apply ink to paper.

Instructions

1. Squeeze or pour acrylic paint into a bowl to a depth of about 1/4 inch. Use the same type of acrylic paint that you would use when painting a picture.

2. Place your canvas on a flat surface. This will enable you to apply the acrylic paint with a stamp, without drips.

3. Dip a rubber stamp into the paint so that only the rubber portion of the stamp is covered. Tap any excess paint back into the bowl.

4. Press the rubber stamp straight down onto the canvas, then lift it straight up again. This will prevent the paint from smudging.

5. Continue painting the picture using your brushes.

"Sesame Street" Art Projects

Use simple art supplies for Sesame Street projects.

Sesame Street is designed to teach young kids about colors, numbers, letters and exploring the world around them. One type of exploratory activity is creating art projects inspired by the show. Because the target audience for Sesame Street toddlers, preschool and young elementary students, choose simple art projects based on Sesame Street characters and themes.

Elmo's World

Elmo's World art projects are highly accessible even for young children because they all use crayons as the main material. One idea is to give kids crayons and have them draw a picture of what Elmo's World looks like. Or, for older kids, have them draw what their own world would look like if it were made entirely from crayon drawings, like Elmo's. To make a large-scale project, draw Elmo's World on a large piece of butcher paper and hang it as a backdrop for acting out scenes.

Fuzzy Characters

Kids can make fuzzy Sesame Street characters by gluing colored yarn pieces to a picture of that character. Prepare by printing a picture of the character large enough to mostly fill a sheet of printer paper and cutting 1-inch pieces of yarn in that character's color. School-age kids can even cut the yarn themselves. To do the project, help the child paint a thin layer of diluted glue over the character and place yarn pieces on the glue. Finish with googly eyes and facial features made from black yarn glued over the top of the colored yarn.

Paper Bag Puppets

For an interactive art project, have kids make paper bag puppets of various characters on Sesame Street. The children can use these puppets to act out scenes from the show or make up their own scenes. For each character, use a flat lunch-sized paper bag and orient it with the open end at the character's feet and the bottom of the bag as the character's head. When the child puts his hand in the bag, he can open the head to reveal a mouth. Kids should cut construction paper and glue it to the bag to make features, such as the head, eyes, ears and inside of the mouth.

Alphabet Book

One of the recurring segments on Sesame Street focuses on learning the letters of the alphabet. For an art project for preschoolers or kindergarten students learning their letters, create an alphabet book. Print coloring pages online or create your own pages with a letter of the alphabet and glue on a printable picture of a character or item from the show starting with that letter. Coloring in the letter helps the children understand the shape of the letter and having the picture gives a clue to what the letter sounds like at the beginning of the picture's name.

Convert Line Art To Font

Fonts come in all styles, but the majority stick to displaying the alphabet, numbers and punctuation.

Fonts are a fantastic way to produce clean and clear type for all occasions, but despite their different typefaces, they all have one thing in common: the alphabet. Sometimes you need a font that doesn't contain any letters or numbers, just pictures. Whether you are digitizing your own signature or putting together a collection of alien hieroglyphs, knowing convert line art to font typefaces is a must.

Instructions

1. Draw the line art you want to use to create a font, using a pen and some paper. If you are creating an icon font such as Wingdings, remember that you will need art for all 26 letters of the alphabet (both upper and lower case) plus 10 extra for numbers. Remember also that you will be reducing these images to fit the font software, so try not to make them too complex.

2. Download and install font creation software (see Resources), or visit a font creation website and download its font template. If using font creation software, save a copy of its font template. Load the template you either saved or downloaded in your graphics software, such as Photoshop, PaintShop Pro or Gimp.

3. Scan your images into your graphics software using a scanner. This will usually be achieved using the "Import from scanner" option in the "Import" sub-menu (often found under "File"), but consult your software's manual for specific instructions. For best results, use a high bit rate such as 300 DPI, but no less than 72 DPI or you will lose too much detail from your scans.

4. Copy and paste each of your images into one of the squares on your font template. Save the template as a new file.

5. Load the file into your font creation program or website. Click the "Make font" button. The software or website will then generate a font for you. Save a copy of this file for backup purposes.

6. Install the font by copying the file into the "Fonts" folder in your "Windows" folder (click "Start," "Computer" and open your "C:" drive to find your "Windows" folder).

Select A Song To Have An Audition

Choose a Song for an Audition

Auditions can be scary. You are putting your talents out there to be judged, and whether or not you have had professional training in music it can be intimidating. There are ways to ensure that you choose a song for an audition that will help you land the role.

Instructions

1. Pick songs you know. Nothing will sink you faster in an audition than missed lines. You must know the songs backwards and forwards if you are going to do well in an audition. It never hurts to be prepared with two or more songs.

2. Learn the genre. Knowing the type of show you are going in for will help you choose a song for an audition that is appropriate. For newer non-traditional musicals choose a contemporary radio hit that you enjoy. For a more classic musical, choose a classic Broadway hit song that suits you and the character you are auditioning for.

3. Be safe. Choose a song for an audition that has an easy accompaniment. Not all of the people helping in the audition will be able to do risky and complex songs.

4. Know your voice. Choose a song for an audition that helps you put your best foot forward. Get a song that is the correct pitch and tempo for your voice, and one that you don't have to strain your voice to get through.

5. Find a song that fits you. If you are punk, don't walk in and sing a country or R&B song. People tend to enjoy the music that fits their image. You are auditioning your voice and your image--make sure the song and the image fit together.

6. Sing a song that you can have fun with. When you choose a song for an audition go for the ones that allow you to show some personality. Though Simon and Garfunkle had great songs, they are pretty mellow. Pick a song that is upbeat and gives you range.

Clothes From The '60s For Ladies

The miniskirt made its debut in the 1960s.

The 1960s were marked by a great diversity of style in North America and Western Europe. Updates of classic styles became popular. Daring fads emerged on both the streets and the runways. A wide range of materials and colors were available. This meant fashionable clothing styles could be anything from a simple dress to an extravagant fur coat, depending on a wearer's budget and preferences. This diversity of fashion allowed for a lot of creative expression.

Shift or A-Line Dresses

Popular in the 1960s was the shift or A-line dress, a simple outfit that came in a variety of bold colors and fabrics. Shift dresses had designs in both solids and prints and the hem fell anywhere between the thigh and the knee. These dresses exemplified the newer relaxed shaping and de-emphasis on the waist that became an accepted aspect of 1960s style.

European Fashion

In the early 1960s Yves Saint Laurent created a beatnik style collection featuring knit turtlenecks and black leather turtlenecks. In Paris and Rome skirts were very short and the "bubble" skirt became popular with designers. Designer collections from these cities also introduced wide collars and high pointed hats. This avant-garde fashion and the bold statements it made popped up in some areas and among some groups in the United States.

Fur

High-end customers in the 1960s became fond of fur. This luxury item lined, trimmed and accessorized fancy and expensive clothing. Fur turbans wrapped the heads of the most stylish and elegant. Sophisticated and pricey alligator purses became a status symbol. Though mink and leopard furs made opulent accessories, it was the long haired furs like fox, fisher and sable that women considered particularly elegant and coveted.

Fashion Fads

Daring fashion fads of the 1960s included hot pants and miniskirts. Period fashionistas wore both styles very short. Space age vinyl and synthetic fabrics were also popular. Mod fashion came of age in London. Bold colors and prints marked this style. Mod-style prints included geometric patterns, large flower and Art Nouveau inspired prints. Also fashionable in the 1960s was the "preppie" style, which included mohair sweaters, plaid fabrics and classic A-line skirts.

Sew Ballet Footwear

With the price of pointe shoes, many parents are surprised when they first open the box to find there is "some assembly required." However, all dancers have personal preferences when attaching ribbons and elastic, and the comfort and flexibility of both require a personal fit. Before a first-time sewer begins the process of preparing her pointe shoes, she should check with her ballet teacher or dance company to see if they have a style preference for sewing. As dancers get more experience wearing and sewing their pointe shoes, they will develop their own method that works best for them.

Instructions

1. Cut the ribbon into four equal parts, roughly 22 inches in length each. To easily cut ribbon, fold the full length of the ribbon in half and cut in the center of the fold. You will now have two pieces of ribbon. Repeat this step once again with the two ribbons you just cut, so you will have four ribbons total. Double-thread the needle by inserting the thread through the eye of the needle, leaving an equal length of thread roughly 20 inches long on both sides of the eye. Tie a small knot in both ends of the thread.

2. Lay one pointe shoe on a flat surface. Take the heel of your pointe shoe and push the satin forward so that the vertical heel seam lies flat against the inner sole of the shoe. By doing so, you will create a "V" at the heel end of your shoe and an angular fold where the heel touches the sides of the shoe. Take one piece of ribbon and lay it in the crease of the fold you have created, so that it shoots out of the "V" at an angle. With a pencil, lightly mark inside the shoe on both sides of the ribbon to designate the angle at which you will sew the ribbon.

3. Unfold the "V" created in Step 1. Place one ribbon along your pencil marks with 1 inch of the ribbon inside the shoe. The ribbon should have the shiny side facing the outside of the shoe and the matte side facing inside (you will look at the matte side as you sew). Fold the end of the ribbon you have placed in the shoe under about half an inch to prevent raveling. Whipstitch short, ¼-inch stitches around both sides and bottom of the ribbon. To whipstitch, start on the right side of the ribbon and insert the needle through the canvas lining inside the shoe, close to the ribbon. Bring the needle up through both layers of the ribbon, about a quarter inch from where you originally inserted the needle. Repeat until you have sewn around the right side, bottom and left side of the ribbon.

4. Sew across the top of the ribbon, taking two longer horizontal stitches that run parallel to the side of your pointe shoe. Do not sew through the casing that holds the drawstring. Now that you have completed your square of stitches, knot the thread by slipping the needle under several completed stitches and pulling the thread tight. Cut the excess thread close to the knot.

5. Measure the placement and length for your elastic by slipping on your pointe shoes. Flex your foot and place the elastic on both sides of the back seam, about 1/8 to 1/4 inch away from the heel seam. Stretch the elastic so that it is taut, but still comfortable. Make light pencil marks on both sides of the elastic to mark placement. Cut the elastic at a comfortable length, remembering to leave about ½ inch on both ends for sewing. Remember, you will need to put your whole foot through the elastic, and it should not cut into your ankle while you are wearing your shoes. Whipstitch (see Step 4) around both sides and the bottom of the elastic similar to the way you sewed the ribbons. Do not sew across the top of the elastic. Knot the thread by slipping the needle under several completed stitches and pulling the thread tight. Cut the excess thread close to the knot.

6. Repeat Steps 2 through 5 for all four ribbons and the elastic for your second shoe.

Understand Kinds Of Sculpture

Understand Types of Sculpture

A sculpture is a three-dimensional object with mass that inhabits space. There are two major types of sculpture, freestanding and relief. Freestanding is a detached sculpture seen from all sides. This includes statues, busts, equestrian, fountain and kinetic sculptures. Relief sculptures project from or are incised into a surface and viewed from the front and sides. Types of relief include incised, low and high relief.

Instructions

1. Explore websites with sculpture. Learn the different types of sculpture and find examples of each. There are many websites with images of sculpture available.

2. Engage in sculpture physically. Visit art galleries and sculpture gardens. Walk around the sculpture if you are able. If you are planning a trip to a museum, check their website before going to get information on the sculpture.

3. Recognize the types of relief sculptures. The incised or intaglio relief was popular in Egypt. Bas or low relief was used is Assyria and several exist from the Palace of King Ashurnasirpal. An example of high relief is the "Lion Gate" in Mycenae Greece. The doors (portals) and over-the-door sections (tympanums) of Romanesque and Gothic Cathedrals are often carved in high relief.

4. Learn about the modern types of freestanding or "in-the-round" sculpture. Assembly works combine different elements to create an object. Earthworks are site specific and usually outdoors. Installation uses materials to create an experience in a specific place. Kinetic sculpture contains pieces that move.

5. Consider the materials used. Sculpture can be made of many different materials, not just stone or metal.

6. Look at the relationship between the environment and the object. Brancusi's "Bird in Space" is abstract, yet gives a feeling of flight. Factor in the size because the dimensions give you a certain experience. Michelangelo's "David" is more than 14 feet tall. Oldenburg's "Clothespin, Philadelphia" is the height of a four-story building.

7. Identify the purpose of the sculpture. It can be non-functional like Bernini's "Apollo and Daphne" or decorative as in the coat of arms on the fence of Buckingham Palace. Other functional sculptures include commemorative tombs, plaques or columns; ceremonial masks and totem poles; and fertility symbols like the pre-historic "Venus" of Willendorf.

Understand Standard Mixing Levels

With the wide variety of different audio mediums, there are certain requirements expected for each mix. Mixing for television, film and DVD require a different approach than standard music mixing.

Here I will discuss some of the guidelines specific to each medium.

Instructions

1. Movie Theater

There are no guidelines in terms of average loudness, peak or level measurement. You can attain proper levels by calibrating your listening environment so that it resembles the environment of a movie theater.

However, there is a maximum loudness level for theatrical trailers and commercials which is measured with the Dolby Model 737 Soundtrack Loudness Meter.

Trailer loudness should not exceed 85 dB Leq(m), as regulated by TASA.

Commercial loudness should not exceed 82 dB Leq(m), as regulated by SAWA.

2. DVD

The same rules apply as with the theatrical mix with the exception of monitoring (near-field, no X-curve), the room is smaller and calibrated lower and there is the dial-norm parameter if the mix is AC3 encoded.

You have to determine your target dial-norm before beginning the mix, so you can adjust your listening level accordingly. Most DVDs are mixed for dialnorm -27dB (most compatible with the theatrical mix); many will use the full dynamic range (-31dB).

3. TV Commercials

You'll have to get the specifications of your target TV channel, but you will most likely use only the max peak value they provide. With this in mind, you can compress as much as you'd like. TV commercials are very much like pop music CDs. It's a loudness war.

4. TV

Reference level is used for equipment alignment and does not have a direct relation to actual mixing levels.

In EBU countries it is: -18dBFS. In SMPTE countries it is: -20dBFS. This is often refered to as: Zero level, Line-up level, 0VU.

Maximum Peak Level is where you set your brickwall limiter so that it will not allow audio to exceed your calibration level.

What can create confusion is when the average dialogue level is not exactly specified.

In a perfect world, you would calibrate your listening environment to the ITU-R BS.775-1 standard (-20dBFS pink @79dB SPL/C/slow), [or EBU 3276 and EBU 3276-S if you are in Europe] and then mix by ear. In that case you would get average dialogue levels at around -27dBFS RMS.

However, with this method, your mix could turn out too quiet, as there's a loudness war in broadcasting, partly due to the loudness of commercials.

Understand Note Positioning In Written Music

Musical arrangements are typically composed on sheet music. Scores indicate what key and time signatures are used, as well as other nuances of the compositions. Understanding note placement in sheet music is the first step to reading music, playing other people's works, collaborating with fellow musicians and penning your own songs.

Instructions

Treble Clef Notation

1. Draw a five-line staff with a treble clef on the left-hand side. Or obtain pre-printed treble clef sheet music.

2. Write the notes F A C E in each of the solid spaces between the five lines. The bottom space (between the bottom and penultimate line) is where the note F is placed. The space above that is A. The next ascending space is for the note C and E is on the top space. It will spell the word "face" if read from the bottom space upward.

3. Mark each line of the staff with their musical notes--E G B D F. The bottom line is E, the penultimate line is G, the middle line is B, the second from the top line is for the note D and the top line is F.

4. Check your work. Musical notes are A through G. Once G is used the notes begin again with A and continue through the alphabet ending at G again. Begin with the bottom line, E, and read the notes upward from line to space to line to space. It should read E F G A B C D E F.

Bass Clef Notation

5. Draw a five-line staff with a bass clef on the left-hand side. Or obtain pre-printed bass clef sheet music.

6. Write the notes A C E G in each of the solid spaces between the five lines. The bottom space (between the bottom and penultimate line) is where the note A is placed. The space above that is C. The next ascending space is for the note E and G is on the top space. It will spell the word "ace" with a "g" following if read from bottom space upward.

7. Mark each line of the staff with their notes--G B D F A. The bottom line is G, the penultimate line is B, the middle line is D, the second from the top line is for the note F and the top line is A.

8. Check your work. Begin with the bottom line, G, and read the notes upward from line to space to line to space. It should read F A B C D E F G A.

Understand Hvlp Painting

Use HVLP equipment for a fine finish.

HVLP stands for high volume, low pressure, and refers to a type of spray application. HVLP spray guns are highly efficient when compared to older spray equipment that used higher air pressures. HVLP guns typically operate with cap pressures as low as 15 PSI, compared to traditional equipment that had pressures in the 60 PSI range. The lower pressures lead to more efficient transfer rates, since less paint bounces off the piece being sprayed. The bottom line is HVLP guns use less paint to cover a given surface area.

Instructions

1. Thin the paint for spraying. The required consistency will depend upon the spray cap being used; spray caps are sized in millimeters, with a typical range of 0.8mm to 2.5mm. The larger diameter tips are for thicker materials such as primers or latex paints.

2. Pour the thinned paint through a paint filter into the HVLP gun's paint cup. Filtering is an important process; even small contaminants in the paint can clog the gun.

3. Adjust the compressor's regulator. HVLP guns vary, but if you don't have an instruction manual for your gun, start with 25 PSI, but be prepared to go as high as 45 PSI.

4. Hook the air source up to the spray gun. It's a good idea to put an air filter in the line between the air hose and the spray gun. If you use a quick disconnect fitting, make sure it has a flow rate that matches the gun's requirements.

5. Begin spraying. To adjust the gun, spray a test pattern on a piece of cardboard or other scrap. Adjustments on most automotive type HVLP guns are similar. The knob on the base of the handle (near the air inlet) controls air flow. The knob on the back of the gun controls the paint flow, and the knob on the side of the gun selects the pattern. The spray cap on the front of the gun can be turned for a horizontal or vertical pattern.

Start spraying by pulling the gun's trigger, and then moving the gun over your work. Continue sweeping the gun in front of your work piece, about 8 inches from your work. Sweep beyond the end of your work, and then release the trigger. Continue in this fashion, overlapping each pass by 50 percent.

6. When you are done painting, clean the gun immediately. Rinse out the paint cup with thinner. Then spray clean thinner through the gun until it comes out clear. Remove the spray cap and inspect it for cleanliness. If the spray cap isn't clean, soak it in thinner to clean it.

Stencil Letters On Fabric

Add wording to T-shirts by using a lettering stencil.

When you paint wording on a T-shirt or other piece of fabric, producing letters that are even and uniform in design can be difficult. This can make the finished product appear novice and cheaply made. One solution is to use a lettering stencil when painting on wording, which will produce clear and even letters. You can find lettering stencils in a variety of sizes and designs at any craft supply store or scrapbooking shop.

Instructions

1. Lay the fabric to which you want to apply lettering on a sheet of cardboard. If you are applying letters to a T-shirt, insert the cardboard inside the T-shirt.

2. Tape a lettering stencil onto the fabric using art tape. Art tape can secure the stencil onto the fabric without leaving behind a sticky residue.

3. Cover the lettering stencil with fabric paint using a sponge brush. Do not apply paint onto the edges of the stencil. Allow the paint to dry fro 30 minutes, then remove the stencil and tape.

4. Trace around the painted-on letters using squeezable fabric paint. This will make the letters appear more refined and professional-looking. Allow the paint to dry for 30 minutes.

Use Winamp To Dj & Karaoke

Winamp is a good way to learn the basics of DJing before spending large amounts on equipment.

Nullsoft's Winamp is a Windows-exclusive media player. Initially released in 1997 as a freeware product, Winamp has a large library of proprietary and community-produced plug-ins designed to extend its functionality. Plug-ins add features such as advanced Graphic Equalizers, visualization effects, and Internet broadcasting tools. One such plug-in is CDG, which allows Winamp to read the lyric files from karaoke discs, and display them onscreen.

Instructions

1. Install Winamp. Click the lightning bolt icon to open the Media Library. In the left-hand pane of the library, scroll down to "Winamp Add-Ons." This will open the browser view and access the Winamp plug-in directory. Search for CDG, and click "Download" under the screenshot of a desktop displaying some lyrics. Select the "Visualization" tab above the Media Library, and place a karaoke disc in the drive. Double-click a track in the playlist, and as the song plays, the lyrics will appear in the visualization space.

2. Click the "View" menu and select "Equalizer," causing the Graphic Equalizer to appear. Along its top edge, there is the Crossfade button, with an icon showing a tapered arrow. Clicking the Crossfade button will cause Winamp to fade the current song into the next song in the playlist. The number in the box beside it represents how many seconds the Crossfade will take; clicking the number and dragging up and down will raise or lower it.

3. Drag your songs into the playlist window, in the order you want them played. Double-click the first song to start it playing. Pay attention to the beat of the song and approximate the number of seconds in a four-bar measure (one 'loop' of the song's main phrase.) Enter the number in the box by the Crossfade button. Choose an appropriate point in the song to fade out and click the Crossfade button on the "1" of that measure. The crossfade will probably not be entirely accurate at first, but with practice you will become better able to time it properly.

4. Connect the audio out from your PC or audio interface to an amplifier and speakers, ensuring the amp is switched off, and the volume set to zero. Set the Winamp output volume to 100%, using the horizontal slider under the track names. Power on the amp and gradually increase the volume to an appropriate level.

Framework A Bit Of Artwork

Frame a piece of artwork properly to extend its lifespan.

When you create or purchase a piece of artwork, you're doing it to show the artistic appreciation you have. The best way to do so is by framing and displaying it for everyone in your home to see. Framing adds to the appeal of the art and protects it from dirt, dust and damage. While a professional can frame the piece for you, you'll save money and learn a valuable skill if you take the time to frame it yourself.

Instructions

1. Measure the dimensions of the artwork. For an example, use a piece measuring 8 inches tall by 11 inches wide.

2. Select a frame that adds to the aesthetic appeal of the artwork, not your home. The artwork should stand out to viewers, and framing it in something that adds to its appearance allows you to move it from one room to another if necessary and eliminates the need to reframe it at a later time to match the new decor. The frame needs to include excess space around the piece to include space for the matting. For example, assume the matting is going to extend an additional inch to each side of the piece, making the new dimensions 10 inches tall by 13 inches wide and requiring a frame of the same size.

3. Select glass for the frame. Get a glossy shine if you want to bring out a specific element of the work, or a non-reflective glass if you want to keep the piece mild and allow it to blend into its surroundings. Select glass the same size as the frame.

4. Cut a piece of matting with a craft knife to the same dimensions as the frame. Make markings an inch from the edge of the matting on all four sides, creating an inner square with the margins you chose, - 1 inch, for example - on all four sides. Use the craft knife to cut the inside of the matting out to display your art.

5. Add the glass to the frame.

6. Place the matting down on top of the glass, then add the artwork. Be careful placing the art down, ensuring it's not crooked in the frame and the matting surrounds the piece evenly.

7. Place the backing on the frame to finish the framing process.

8. Add a piece of picture hanging wire to the back of the frame between two eye hooks placed approximately a third of the way down the frame.

Cite A Curator While Using Mla Format

The Modern Language Association (MLA) has implemented a structured approach to essay writing used around the world for decades. Most commonly used in humanities-related journals, students should expect to know this writing format style for essay writing in high school and college. This includes an understanding of cite sources, such as individuals you have interviewed. An interview with a curator uses the same format as an interview with any other person and requires basic information including name, the type of interview conducted and the date of the interview.

Instructions

1. Write down the the last name of the curator inside parenthesis for an in-essay citation. For example, suppose you interviewed curator John Doe. After using a quote, cite the source by adding "(Doe)" at the end of the quote.

2. Start a curator citation in the bibliography by writing down the curator's last name, followed by his or her first name. For example, curator John Doe appears as "Doe, John."

3. Write down the type of interview that occurred after entering the curator's name. The interview can occur in several ways including in person and over the phone. Suppose the interview occurred over the phone. After the curator's name, enter "Telephone Interview."

4. Enter the date the interviewed occur in the following format: day month year. An interview that occurred on October 5, 2009 appears as follows: "5 October 2009." Putting all the steps together in our example, the final citation looks as follows: Doe, John. Telephone Interview. 5 October 2009.

5. Indent the second line of the citation if it runs longer than one line.

Highly versatile, the Strobe Photogenic PowerLight 1250DR offers digital displays for modeling, flash and strobe. The light can be adjusted in 1/10 or 1/2 f-stop increments. The light can be adjusted by means of a sliding switch. Let us see turn on the Strobe Photogenic PowerLight 1250DR:

Instructions

1. To operate a Strobe Photogenic PowerLight 1250DR you must understand how the light works. The Strobe Photogenic PowerLight 1250DR provides settings that range from 16 watts per second to as much as 500 watts per second and anything in between. A watt per second, or w/s, is also called a joule. 10 to 12 joules is the normal light flash available on most commonly used strobe lights. So, any setting on the Strobe Photogenic PowerLight 1250DR will produce an excellent strobe light. Just slide the switch to the correct position for the effect you want.

2. Take necessary precautions when working with the Strobe Photogenic PowerLight 1250DR or any other photographic light. Lights can get extremely hot and need to be handled with care. If you have to unplug the light, make sure you let it cool down and do not place it near anything flammable. Very hot bulbs can explode. Shut down the unit if it appears to be getting too hot. Do not operate the Strobe Photogenic PowerLight 1250DR if the light appears to be cracked or otherwise broken. One advanatage of strobe lights over continuous lights is that they do not operate all the itme and so do not run the same risks as continuous lights.

3. To make sure you can always take a picture with your Strobe Photogenic PowerLight 1250DR, you must make sure you have a good power source and control system. A Power Pack unit can be used to plug in your light. You will control everything from this unit, including the rate of flash. The unit gives you much better control than that provided on the light itself or on your camera. Professional photographers normally use this sytem. You can actually connect some of these to a computer and even further fine-tune your control of the light. Versatility is very important for the professional photgrapher, or even an amateur who wants to learn take a professional-style photgraph.

Tulip fabric paint comes in a variety of forms, including spray, stick and gel.

If you've always wanted to try your hand at painting fabric, the possibilities are endless with Tulip paints. The wide variety of colors and delivery methods, including spray paint, gel, markers and tie-dye kits, make Tulip products perfect for beginning and advanced crafters alike.

Graffiti T-Shirt

Tulip paints that work well to make a customized graffiti T-shirt are the Fabric Paint Cannon, the Big Phat Fabric Marker and the Dimensional Fabric Paint Tagger. Using a plain white T-shirt and a Tulip Fashion Form to stretch it and help it lay flat, spray paint onto the shirt using the Spray Cannon. You can apply as much or as little as you like to create this layer of background color. Let the shirt dry, then use the Big Phat Fabric Marker to draw designs on it. Tulip makes Fashion Graffiti Stencils to make this step easier, if you prefer to lay them on the shirt and use the markers to color them in. To really make your designs pop, use the Dimensional Fabric Paint Tagger to outline the stencils or drawings.

Painted Tote Bag

If you prefer painting with a brush, Tulip Soft Fabric Paint turns a plain canvas tote into a work of art. Lay the bag flat on a piece of cardboard and pin it down securely using sturdy straight pins. Use self-adhesive shelf paper if you want to create stencils; this gives you the ability to modify your design before painting it. Using Tulip Fabric Markers, which come in a variety of colors that resist fading despite repeated washings, outline your stencils, then peel away the shelf paper. Fill in the outline using the Soft Fabric Paint and allow your design to dry. Fashion Graffiti Stencils also work well for this project if you prefer to let someone else create the design.

Batik Apron

Tulip's Cool Color Block and One-Step Fabric Dye allow more advanced crafters to use traditional painting techniques to create intricate batik projects. Cool Color Block is a dye-resistant product that comes in a convenient squeeze tube for precision drawing. Use this product to draw a freehand design on a 100 percent cotton apron, or outline a stencil made by you or Tulip. Allow it to dry, then lay the apron on a plastic trash bag to collect excess dye and prevent staining of your work surface. Add water to Tulip One-Step Fashion Dye bottles, according to the manufacturer's directions, and shake to mix. Squeeze dye directly onto the fabric, overlapping colors at the edges as desired. Cover the dyed fabric with another plastic bag and allow it to sit for six hours. Machine wash on a large load setting with a small amount of regular laundry detergent. Hang to dry.

1. Fold a piece of red construction paper into a card. Cut a heart out of aluminum foil and glue it onto the front of the card for a shiny heart greeting. Use a marker to write your message inside.

2. Cut a heart out of card stock and using double-sided tape, secure a miniature sweet treat to it. Write a matching phrase. For example, use miniature lollipops and write "I'm a sucker for you," or a piece of gum and write "I'm stuck on you." Get creative!

3. Create a finger-painted card. On a separate sheet of paper let your kids finger paint a picture. Let it dry, then dab some glue onto it and attach some glitter. Cut hearts out of the finger-painted picture and glue them onto a card made from construction paper.

4. Cut a big heart out of a paper grocery bag. Using a hole punch, punch holes around the edge of the heart. Lace ribbon through the holes and tie the ends into a bow. Write your message in marker on the heart. Decorate with glitter.

Create A Film

Producing an independent movie isn't as expensive as a big-budget studio film, but there are still considerable expenses. A small film needs steady, stable funding in order to keep the movie on schedule. There are several ways to fund a film, and all of them require faith in the project and the ability to sell it before you film it.

Instructions

1. Look for people that have the means and interest to fund an independent film. Put together a movie pitch that excites potential benefactors about the movie. Prepare a script for investors, or write a synopsis of the storyline.

2. Approach local companies, and ask for a sponsorship. Consider placing the company's product in your movie in order to get some funds. Convince the companies that your film is a good advertisement for them, or that the sponsorship is good for the company's reputation.

3. Throw a fundraising party. Entice potential backers with live entertainment and plenty of activities. Invite the entire community to come and to donate to your film. Build up buzz for your film at the same time.

4. Look for grants that are available to independent filmmakers. Perform online searches for film grants, and apply for any you can find. Call colleges in your state, and ask whether they give grants for the arts.

5. Fund your movie with credit cards, if all else fails. Charge your equipment and labor costs, and hope the movie makes enough to pay back the charges.

Write Introductions

Write Introductions

In this article, you will learn write an effective introduction. Whether it is for a formal academic paper, newsletter or article, having a good introduction is essential to keeping the reader interested.

Instructions

1. The Topic Sentence

Draw the reader into your topic with an interesting fact, observation or controversy. Depending on your format, include a graphic embedded to the left-hand corner of your introduction. This helps draw the reader's attention.

2. The Middle Sentences

The middle sentences of your introduction should highlight some of the specific issues you will explain in more detail later. Resist the urge to include 3 or 4 long sentences in a row. Short sentences have impact too. Try not to overload the reader with information.

3. Ending the Introduction

Wrap up the introduction by explaining what the reader will learn and how it will benefit them. This is where many readers decide whether it is worth their time to keep reading. Hook them with the last sentence of the introduction.

Write A Poem On Any Subject

Poetry is subjective but there are obvious ways to distinguish between good and bad poetry. What enhances a poem and what bogs it down can make the difference between a great poem and one that sounds dull, cliched or amateurish.

Instructions

1. Steer clear of obvious references in your poems. People read poetry to stir their imaginations, not to have things spelled out for them. For example, rather than say, "The rain came down" - (which other way can it go?), simply say the rain came.

2. Go outside the box. Be willing to stretch the limits of what you're comfortable with. When you do this, you open your imagination to new thoughts, scenes, points of view and imagery. This will take your poetry out of the realm of "ordinary."

3. Avoid "cutesy" (think: roses are red, violets are blue) or cliched words and phrases (think: she was as cold as ice.) Reliable, overused terms dull a poem.

4. Use a pleasing rhythm. Reading poetry is as much about how it flows and sings on the tongue as it is about a story or image. Read your poem out loud to see how it sounds. Is it clunky, choppy or sounding smooth?

5. Don't use obscurities in language or image for the sake of impressing the reader. Your agenda will come across in the poem and will have the opposite effect.

6. Employ detail and avoid generalities. For example, say "the crimson alpaca cardigan" rather than "the red sweater."

Draw Manufacturers Figures

Draw Nintendo Characters

Nintendo characters have come a long way since they first came out in the '80s, but drawing them can be relatively simple with a little practice.

Instructions

1. First gather some example pictures to get an idea of which character you are interested in drawing. Look over them to decide where you would like to start and get an idea of the lines involved for drawing it. Gather together your pencil and paper. Used a regular pencil or a mechanical pencil. Or you can use pencils from a set, and for initial lines you may want to start with a 2H so they are lighter and easier to erase. For paper, you can use regular print paper or bristol pad paper.

2. Now that you have your supplies and character in mind, start with some sketches to practice the general lines needed to make the character. Practice the curves for the face and the proportions for how the eyes, nose and mouth line up for your character. If you are not happy with your initial sketches, start over; there is nothing wrong with practicing first before the final. You will get better at it over time.

3. For getting the body and face in proportion, set up a scale to go by. For instance, the pencil can be used as a ruler. To use it, close one eye and hold the pencil at arms length. Using the top of the eraser down mark how big the head is and then take that measurement down on paper. Next do so for the main torso from neck to the top of the legs and mark that measurement down on paper. Then do the same for the arms and legs. If you do not like this method, you can also use an actual ruler and measure the example picture.

4. If you are still struggling with getting the proportion correct, trace the example picture to get a general idea of how the lines will go, and then practice on your paper. Over time, it will become more natural and you will be able to draw them yourself without the help of the example.

5. Once you are happy with your outline, its time to bring the character to life with shading to create the 3-D look. Back when Nintendo characters first came out, they were more two dimensional, but as time has progressed, they have become more 3-D and animated.

6. First darken in your main lines for the facial features and other lines that are black with either a harder line with a regular pencil or with a darker pencil such as a 2B.

7. Next, begin shading your character. You can practice this on some of your practice sketches until you are happy with your rendering. If you use the colored pencils, create different shadows with the pencil pressure, light for highlighted areas, and dark for shadow areas. The shadow areas can also be touched up with a gray or black to emphasize the shadow.

8. Markers are more difficult, especially depending on the style and type of marker. Prisma markers are best for shading, but if you choose to use them, you will also need paper more suitable for them, such as velum paper. The prisma markers have ten different shades of gray specifically designed for being used to shade. So first create your shadows and highlights using the grays, and then you can go over it with the color for that area, and then touch it back up with the grays if need be. If you use regular markers, you can color the entire area with the color you desire and then go back with your regular pencil or colored pencils to create the shadows and highlights, using a white pencil for the highlights.

9. Another way the character can be rendered is on photoshop on the computer. Scan in your outline and import it into photoshop. Then use the paint option to color in your colors, shadows, and highlights. There are also some techniques that can be applied in the formatting section of the program. This is one technique that will take some practice, though, before the desired end is reached, so be prepared to do several sketches on that program before getting the end result.

10. While most Nintendo characters are stylized, there are a few such as the characters from Zelda that are more realistic, and therefore have more naturalistic details to draw. They will take more time to master. Continue to practice and try new techniques until you have created your own style to make them your own.

Transfer Tattoo Designs On Your Skin

With practice, your transferred designs can look exactly how you want them to.

Tattoo artists create intricate artwork on skin, accurately and to scale, by transferring a guide, traced from the original design, applied to the body. Transferring a tattoo design is considered one of the most important steps of the tattooing process. A skilled artist, using a transfer, can make sure your tattoo looks exactly the way you want it.

Instructions

1. Choose a design, based on personal preferences, to be inked by a tattoo artist. Selecting a design or artwork in advance, with clear line art, will help the artist create a higher-quality transfer and reduce waiting time. Schedule appointments in advance to allow sufficient time for the artist to do good work.

2. Place a piece of paper on a dry, clean table or counter top. Place a sheet of carbon paper, ink side down, atop the blank piece of paper, and place the design on top of that. Fasten all three sheets together with paperclips. Check the positions of each layer to be sure the design will be centered on the blank paper, to avoid creating an incomplete copy.

3. Trace the line art of the design using the ballpoint pen. Avoiding adding any shading, to prevent mistakes when inking the tattoo. Remove the paperclips and inspect the copy for any marks or inaccuracies that will compromise the final product. Use the scissors to trim and remove excess paper around the design.

4. Use the disposable razor to shave the patch of skin the design will be transferred to and wipe the shaved skin with alcohol or other disinfectant. Wait for the skin to dry, and apply the rollon deodorant liberally to the area. Discard the razor and deodorant to avoid infection.

5. Press the carbon-copied design, with the ink side facing the skin, against the body for several minutes. Peel the paper off in a fluid motion from one side to the other. Check the placement and clarity of the transfer. Correct any mistakes or botched transfers by removing the design with alcohol and applying a new transfer.

Transfer Pyrography Designs Onto Wood

Pyrography is a form of art in which a design, pattern or picture is burnt into the surface of a piece of wood using a special heated pen set; however, not everyone who enjoys pyrography considers themselves an artist. Many pyrographers use the method of transferring a pattern that they have purchased or modified from a photo onto the wood surface.

Instructions

1. Position the carbon paper, placing it so that the center of the paper matches the spot where you would like the center of your finished design to be. The carbon side needs to be placed down so that it is making contact with the wood. If you are unsure which side contains the carbon substance, it should be darker and have a slight gloss to it.

2. Tape the carbon paper in place. Using the masking tape, place a small piece of tape on each of the four corners of the carbon paper.

3. Place the pattern directly on top of the carbon paper and tape all four corners.

4. Trace the pattern. Use the ballpoint pen to trace the pattern. Be sure to place enough pressure on the carbon paper for it to transfer.

5. Check your transfer. Peel up the tape from two corners and check to make sure that your design has transferred. If it hasn't transferred check to see that the carbon side is face down and touching the wood surface. It is also possible that you did not apply enough pressure while tracing.

Necessary Equipment For Establishing A Recording Studio

Necessary Equipment for Setting Up a Recording Studio

Building a recording studio ranges from a simple, straightforward home hobby studio that involves just the basics, or to a complex and expensive business, complete with custom soundproofing. At the very least, a studio space should be free from intrusive noise and echoes. A basic studio consists of a suitable workspace, a microphone, recording equipment and speakers.

Studio Space

Selecting a studio space is the most important aspect of setting up a recording studio because it will determine the sound quality of your recordings. External noise, such as road noise or a neighbor's lawn equipment, can make its way onto your recordings. Internally, echoes and standing waves can wreak havoc on an otherwise clean recording.

To reduce external noise problems, consider putting the studio in a basement or a room with small windows that can be easily covered. For internal noise, acoustical foam panels are used to reduce echoes, and are available in different materials that address problems with sounds of different frequencies. It isn't necessary to cover the entire room with acoustical panels in order to reduce noise.

A good studio will also have enough room to set up musical instruments, a desk with a computer, a microphone, the recording instruments, a chair, and the musician(s) and recording artist. Larger rooms will also have less of an echo problem. Make sure the room has enough electrical outlets so that all of the equipment can be plugged in and properly grounded.

Microphones

Microphones work by converting sound waves into an electrical signal, which can then be broadcast or recorded. There are two basic types of microphones: condenser and dynamic. Condenser microphones are commonly used in studios because they have a wide range of recording frequencies and are quicker to pick up a sound than a dynamic microphone. However, they also pick up unwanted sounds, so they are usually limited to studio work. Dynamic microphones are usually less expensive and have a narrower range of frequency response. On the plus side, they are rugged and moisture resistant. The type of recording done in the studio should dictate the choice of a microphone.

Recording Equipment

Recording equipment can be as basic as a cassette tape recorder, but digital is most common. Some computer software programs function as recorders, and these take input from the microphone and record it to a hard drive. Software offers the recording artist the ability to use multiple tracks and provides a wide variety of special effects, including adding reverberation, reducing hiss and popping sounds, and other audio filters. For the high-end recording studio, stand-alone multi-track recording units are available. Optional studio equipment may include specialty sound cards for the computer, audio mixers, keyboards, preamps, headphone amps and other audio equipment.

Speakers

A good set of speakers is necessary to hear the range of bass, mid-tones, and high-frequency notes captured by a recording. Called studio monitors or reference speakers, a set of studio speakers are unlike regular stereo speakers in that they are designed so that they deliver the sound that was recorded without any manipulation. Reference speakers should be set up on stands and away from walls or corners. Ideally, the speakers are in front and at an equal distance to the listener so that they form a triangle with the listener.
